Sowing Seeds of Service in Our Community

Commercial Real Estate Loan Coordinator Jessica Kramer helps to plant foliage at the University of Hawaii Manoa Campus Center.

At American Savings Bank, “Caring” and “Being Involved” are two of our core values. We believe in helping our communities grow not only through our banking services and philanthropic giving, but also through volunteerism. In 2007, over 500 American Savings Bank employees donated more than 1,800 volunteer hours as part of our Seeds of Service, initiative.

Launched in 2005 to celebrate the bank's 80th anniversary, Seeds of Service has since been adopted as an annual bank-wide initiative. Seeds of Service encourages employees to volunteer at a school or community organization of their choice. Employees have assisted with various projects ranging from landscaping and cleaning to serving meals at a shelter.

Over the past three years, our Seeds of Service initiative has contributed over 6,000 total volunteer hours to schools and non-profit organizations on Oahu, Hawaii Island, Maui, Molokai, and Kauai.

Anna Marie Springer (Senior Vice President & Community Liaison), Connie Lau (Chairman & CEO) and Gabe Lee (Executive Vice President, Commercial Markets) paint classrooms at Mililani Ike Elementary.

Kauai Market team members, Amber Riopta, Jennifer Galindo, Maureen Mulvihill, Joanne Labrador and Marilyn Bylander, serve dinner at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen in Lihue.

Hahaione Elementary gets landscaping help from Gary Horita and Ken Kobayashi from American Savings Bank's Accounting Department.
