American Savings Bank Employees Roll Up Their Sleeves to Save Lives

American Savings Bank believes in giving back to the communities we serve. And our employees give of themselves – one pint at a time – through the employee blood donation program in cooperation with the Blood Bank of Hawaii.

In 2003, American Savings Bank employees generously gave more than 300 pints of blood. Because each pint of blood can be separated into three components – red blood cells, platelets and plasma – their donations potentially helped save more than 900 lives.

According to the Blood Bank of Hawaii, only 2% of eligible Hawaii residents donate blood. Yet more than half of us will need the help of a blood donor during our lifetimes, whether due to a surgical or medical procedure, a difficult childbirth, trauma, anemia or cancer therapy.

You never know when you or a loved one will need blood. And, donating blood is safe, simple and saves lives. To learn more, visit the Blood Bank of Hawaii’s website at www.bbh.org.
