Supporting economic development in Waianae

This summer, American Savings Bank provided a grant for $10,000 through the HEI Charitable Foundation to support the Alternative Structures International Summer Work Program for Youth. “Assisting in economic development, particularly along the Leeward Coast, is an important priority for American Savings Bank,” says Cris Akao, Operations Manager at the Waianae branch of American Savings Bank. The grant was used to fund part-time summer work for 10 young people on the organic farm and professional kitchen at Hale Ola O Kahumana. In addition to paid employment, the youths will attend classes in financial literacy promoted by American Savings Bank.
