Constance H. Lau
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Constance H. Lau is chairman and chief executive officer of American Savings Bank, Hawaii’s third largest bank with $6.8 billion in assets.

Connie joined American Savings Bank’s parent company, Hawaiian Electric Industries (HEI), in 1984, and has been a valued executive with the HEI companies since then. Before joining the bank, Connie was treasurer of HEI and Hawaiian Electric Company and chief financial officer of HEI Power Corp., HEI’s international power subsidiary. In late 1999 she became senior executive vice president and chief operating officer of American Savings Bank and became president and CEO in June 2001. She began her career as a corporate attorney in San Francisco and has been involved in finance, law, real estate development, investments and international business.

Connie believes in actively supporting the community. She is active in various capacities in a number of educational and non-profit organizations such as Punahou School, Kamehameha Schools, Hawaii Business Roundtable, Hawaii Bankers Association, Charles Reed Bishop Trust, the Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation and the Maunalani Foundation. She is also a board member of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc.

Recently, Connie was recognized as “Business Leader of the Year” at the 2004 Pacific Business News Leadership Hawaii event. She was also recognized nationally by US Banker magazine as one of the top 25 most powerful women in banking. Connie was ranked #11 as well as honored as number one “Fast-tracker” in her efforts to transform American Savings Bank into a fast-growing player.

Connie earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Yale University, her Juris Doctor law degree from the University of California’s Hastings College of Law and received her Master’s in Business Administration from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.
