American Savings Bank Introduces New Voice Command Technology

No more number punching to bank by phone – voice activation makes life easier

HONOLULU – American Savings Bank customers can now use speech-enabled or voice-command banking by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. American Savings Bank is the first bank in Hawaii to use this voice-activated response technology unit, a product of Intervoice.

“We’re trying to pave the way for more convenient and efficient banking by phone,” said Renee Lum, AVP/Manager of American Savings Bank’s Customer Service Center. “We understand our customers are busy and are often banking while doing other errands. Voice commands make it easier for customers to get an account balance or transfer anytime, even while on the go.”

“This will help customers who are looking for a quick balance check while their hands are occupied, such as while they’re driving. Some may just find it more convenient than the touch-tone system,” said Lum.

Customers began using the initial rollout of the voice-activated banking system in May. Since then, the system has been further adjusted to match local voice tonalities and inflections. The new system does not replace touch-tone banking by phone, but adds voice recognition as another option.

“Technology is critical in today’s society and we are committed to offering our customers the highest level of choices and service available,” said Constance Lau, president and CEO of American Savings Bank. “This new voice-command system gives customers one more convenient way to do their banking.”
