Ho'olako Pono Loan Program
Home Financing for native Hawaiian families on Hawaiian Home Lands
After many years of limited financing options for native Hawaiians on Hawaiian Home Lands, American Savings Bank, an 80-year-old kama'aina bank, is pleased to offer a loan program that offers construction loans and mortgages to Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) lessees.
We appropriately named this loan program Ho'olako Pono. Ho'olako means to provide; to nourish; to give provision. DHHL provides the land, American Savings Bank provides the loans, and Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation (MGIC) insures the loans. Pono means to make right; to be proper. Simply put, this is the pono or "right thing" for these organizations to do. The lessees also have their "kuleana" or obligation and responsibility to ensure a pono legacy for their children. We all must take care of the land which provides a foundation for our homes that are realized with this new loan program.
American Savings Bank is privileged to offer the Ho'olako Pono loan program, which provides expanded financing options available to DHHL lessees.
