How to Report Fraud
Act Quickly to Maximize Your Protection
Account fraud or identity theft occurs when someone gains access to your personal information, such as your bank account number or Social Security number, and then uses this information for illegal purposes or to withdraw money from your account.
Minimize the risk to your personal accounts and credit rating. Act quickly to take the steps below, in the event of:
- Lost or stolen checks
- Lost or stolen ATM, debit or credit card
- Transactions on your American Savings Bank statement that you don’t recognize
Step 1 — Contact us
We’re committed to working with you and guiding you through the necessary steps for your protection.
- Call us at 627-6900 (Oahu) or 1-800-272-2566 (Neighbor Islands and Mainland).
- Send us an electronic message.
We'll cancel your American Savings Bank-issued card and provide a replacement immediately. Notify us promptly and you won't be liable for any unauthorized purchases or withdrawals from your account.
Step 2 — Alert a credit bureau
If you suspect you’re a victim of identity theft, inform any of the three credit bureaus listed below. They’ll assist you in placing a fraud alert on your credit file.
Step 3 — File a police report
Get a copy of the report to submit to your creditors and others that may require proof of the crime.
Step 4 — Report to the FTC and SSA
Contact the following agencies to report a possible case of identity theft and learn useful information:
