American Savings Bank has received reports of a fraudulent lottery prize winning letter and check, indicating that the recipient has won a large sum of money. The scam instructs individuals to deposit the enclosed phony, local Hawaii business check to cover prize processing fees and wire the same amount in the check to a given contact. This scam is meant for individuals to believe that by depositing the fraudulent check, they will be reimbursed for the amount they wire out of their own account. In reality, the check is a fake. The individual will not receive any money and will instead have sent the scammer several thousands of dollars out of their own pocket. See an example of the phony lottery prize winning notification and fraudulent check below.

This is a scam. Do not deposit this check or wire any money to any contact indicated in the lottery prize winning notification.

Reputable local Hawaii businesses, including ASB, will never issue a check with a lottery prize notification.

If you have received such a letter, report it by calling our Customer Banking Center at (808) 627-6900 or toll-free (800) 272-2566.
