“We are thankful to have supporters in the community such as American Savings Bank, who are making our Mālama Honua journey possible,” said Nainoa Thompson, President of the Polynesian Voyaging Society. “Additional fundraising support such as this is critical to the success of our voyage around the world to raise awareness about the need to care for Island Earth.”

On May 17, the Hōkūle‘a and sister canoe, Hikianalia, will embark on a 4 year journey around the world to spread their mission of bringing together organizations and individuals dedicated to learning together how to care for earth’s environmental and cultural resources, demonstrating the powerful learning that happens when place-based education occurs between communities around the world.

“The work that Nainoa and the Polynesian Voyaging Society team are doing is courageous and inspiring. We know how proud the people of Hawaii are of PVS and we want to make it easy for the community to demonstrate support and help make Mālama Honua possible,” said Rich Wacker, president and CEO of American Savings Bank.
