American Savings Bank Supports Kona Low Storm Recovery Efforts Across Hawaii

ASB May 15, 2026 | 3 MINS read Community

As residents and families across Hawaii continue to recover from Kona low storms, American Savings Bank (ASB) is supporting relief and recovery efforts through community partnerships, financial contributions, and preparedness initiatives aimed at helping impacted families and local communities rebuild.

To support ongoing recovery efforts, ASB contributed $125,000 to organizations supporting emergency response, housing recovery, and impacted local businesses across the state.

“Our communities are still navigating the impacts of these storms, and recovery will take time,” said Ann Teranishi, president and CEO at ASB. “We’re committed to bringing real impact to our community by supporting organizations and partners doing critical work to help local families move forward.”

ASB’s community support efforts included

  • $100,000 to Holomua Collective’s Waialua/Haleiwa Owner-Occupant Grant Program to support families impacted by severe flooding on Oahu’s North Shore
  • $10,000 to the American Red Cross Pacific Islands Region to support emergency shelter, supplies, and on-the-ground assistance
  • $10,000 to the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Stronger Hawaii Fund to support statewide disaster recovery efforts
  • $5,000 to the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii to support impacted local restaurants and small businesses

Helping North Shore Families Recover and Rebuild

Holomua Collective’s Waialua/Haleiwa Owner-Occupant Grant Program provides rapid financial relief to families impacted by severe flooding on Oahu’s North Shore.

The program helps owner-occupant households navigate unexpected hardship through assistance for home repairs, temporary housing costs, recovery-related expenses, and other urgent household needs.

ASB’s contribution is expected to support local families with unrestricted grants that can be used at each homeowner’s discretion while navigating insurance delays and funding gaps. As of May 4, the grant program had:

  • Approved 26 applications
  • Distributed $120,000 to recipients
  • Prepared an additional $140,000 in relief funding for distribution

“After our home was flooded unexpectedly, everything felt uncertain,” shared the Moody family. “Receiving this grant means more to us than we can express. Not just the financial support, but the feeling that we’re not alone during this time.”

The Camidge family shared that the grant brought “real relief and hope” while helping provide stability as they rebuild.

The Lovett family shared that the support restored faith during an incredibly difficult time for the community. “You have helped me realize that aloha isn’t dead. Your generosity has helped ensure that our family’s property will remain with us where it belongs for generations to come.”

Community Partnerships and Preparedness

Bringing real impact to the community goes beyond monetary donations. In addition to financial support, ASB also:

  • Teamed up with local designer Manaola on a limited-edition clothing release, with proceeds benefiting impacted communities.
  • Mobilized teammates to provide monetary and on-the-ground volunteer support through various nonprofit partners.
  • Collaborated with KHON to share financial preparedness resources and guidance to help residents prepare for emergencies and unexpected disruptions.
  • Supported “Aloha for Hawaii,” a statewide fundraising campaign hosted by Hawaii News Now.

“At ASB, we believe strong communities are built by people showing up for one another,” said Ann. “We’re incredibly grateful to the nonprofit organizations, first responders, local businesses and community members continuing to support Hawaii families through recovery.”
